The button mushroom kits contains colonised compost and a bag of cover soil.
Place the bag of cover soil in a cool place.
Set the packaging, with the plastic lid on top, aside at a temperature of 20-25°C for 4+ days until the compost has turned completely white with fungus (mycelium).
Punch 10 holes in each side of the cover soil bag. Put the bag in 0.5 litre of water for 30 minutes then open the bag and spread the cover soil evenly and loosely over the compost.
Put the lid on and set the kit aside for 5-8 days at a temperature of 20-25°C. The mycelium will grow through the layer of soil to the surface. Once the cover soil is covered with white mycelium, put the set in a cooler place of 15-18°C.
Make sure that the surface of the cover soil does not dry out by regularly misting with a plant spray. The soil should be moist but not too wet.
The mushrooms will first appear at the edges and later in the centre.
To harvest take a mushroom between your fingers and careful pull with a twist of the hand. Continue to water regularly. After about a week new mushrooms will appear. This process may repeat for 3 harvests.
Good luck and bon appetit.
