Grafted vegetables are more vigorous, producing larger plants and heavier crops of top quality fruit. The Squash Hunter is an early ripening butternut variety. The plants are very high yielding, giving a good supply throughout late summer and autumn.
Check the plants are moist and grow on in 10cm pots using a good quality compost and maintaining a temperature of 16-18 degree C.
Plant out 80cm apart in each direction in later May after hardening off. The fruit must be supported by a flat tile or piece of wood preventing contact with the soil. Apply a balance liquid fertiliser at 7-10 day intervals.
Harvest the squash in September. They can be eaten straightaway or stored in a frost-free place.
