How do you store dahlia tubers over winter?

Dahlias may be allowed to remain outdoors until the upper foliage has been blackened by a slight frost. They should then be lifted before any severe frost has occurred. Cut off the top growth leaving only about 15cm (6") of stem attached to the tubers. Carefully remove any soil from the tuber and turn them upside, allowing them to dry off naturally. The tubers should then be stored, in boxes covering with dry peat or sand, in a dry frost free shed or greenhouse.
