Why are my double flowered hardy geraniums producing single flowers?

The Geranium Southcombe Double can sometimes produce single flowers. When the plants are grown in too much shade or soil conditions are too dry this almost always results in poor flowering and or single flowers.

Keep the plants well watered in dry spells and if the plants are in a very shaded area move them to a more suitable area. They will then produce double flowers.
