How do you care for Tree Lilies?

Depending on the variety, Tree Lilies will eventually reach a height of approximately 1.2m (4ft) - 2.5m (8ft) in height but will be shorter in the first couple of years. They will grow in any well drained soil to which well-rotted garden compost has been added.

Plant the bulbs 15cm (6″) deep and 30cm (12″) apart in a sunny, sheltered position. To aid drainage add grit or sharp sand to the bottom of the planting hole. The plants will benefit from having shorter plants growing around their base to provide the roots with some shade. During the growing season feed with a high potash liquid fertilizer at two week intervals. The plants have thick stems and in a sheltered position will not require supporting with canes. Remove faded flowers as necessary and remove the dead stems in the autumn.
